Owning the skills necessary to rejuvenate batteries means you can save literally thousands of dollars at home and provides the potential for a staggeringly profitable part-time or full-time business. Leaving aside the automotive industry, the stream of innovative gadgets dependent on battery power is filling an ocean.
We live in a mobile age. Everything must be portable. Anything electronic relies on an electrical power source, which must also be mobile and, normally, rechargeable. Automobiles, boats, ride-on mowers, golf carts, fork-lift trucks have all relied on a lead acid battery for quite some time. More recently, smaller appliances such as laptops, palms, cell phones, iPods, Blackberries, power tools, and so on, have flooded our lives.
In the future, a huge market to rejuvenate batteries looms large: hybrid cars and all-electric cars. Well-functioning, near capacity batteries are critical to the functioning and effectiveness of all these very useful tools.
All batteries ultimately wear out; they are exhausted and give up the ghost. But it is a sad fact that almost three quarters of batteries which appear to be dead, but can be returned to near their original capacity, are thrown away. A misfortune for many.An irony for the consumer who is forking out hundreds and thousands of dollars unnecessarily on new batteries. But good news for battery makers.
And music to the ears of ‘battery doctors’ too. If you have no intention of making money as a battery doctor, to rejuvenate batteries just on your car or truck, cell phones, power tools and iPod, you will probably save several thousands of dollars over a lifetime. That is most creditable.
Additionally, a battery doctor can set himself up in business as a one-man-band. If he offers a battery fix service he can expect to make an average $70 an hour. With virtually no overheads. Many people hold down another full-time job and just battery fix part-time, at least until the demand dictates they need to consider it full-time. Many people also choose to get hold of supposedly dead batteries, from numerous sources, recondition and/or rejuvenate them as sell them on as overhauls. This can be extremely lucrative.
There are not too many businesses where your raw materials come free or for a few cents. But for now, here is the real reason there are such big bucks to be made fixing batteries Unlike many other areas of electronics and mechanics, the condition of the problem can be analyzed up front. Within a minute you have tested the battery and know whether or not it is beyond repair. If it really has ‘had it’ you have wasted no time. You either discard it if it is for resale, or inform the customer that it cannot be resurrected.
And there is yet further incentives. At least 50% of batteries which won’t work only need a very quick and simple recondition. In effect that means there is absolutely no need to take the battery apart or open it up and deal with individual cells. It is not a rejuvenation, just a few minutes job. But that is of no concern to the customer. They will just want their battery working again, preferably close to its former capacity. Which means your pricing is up to you, irrespective of the time taken. With a computer-controlled battery analyzer, you can supply a fully accurate print-out of the capacity you have achieved.
For example, you are given a lifeless battery. You quote zero charge for a dead battery, $20 to restore it to 80% of its original capacity or $30 to restore it to 90% or more of its original capacity. You find it only needs a recondition. That’s 5 minutes work. You get 95% of original capacity (quite normal for an overhaul). Print the report from your analyzer and take your $30. Simple, isn’t it?
Okay. So most folk who buy a guide only want it to save money with their own batteries. You will find everything you need to know in the pages of a good downloadable manual and save yourself hundreds or thousands of dollars. For those interested in taking it a stage further and maybe starting by getting some business and doing a few hours a week, again you will find everything technical you need to know within a decent instruction manual. To rejuvenate batteries is as good as recycling them.
